We have put together some most commonly asked questions to give a brief introduction about asthma in Ayurveda, treatment methods adopted by us, and other important questions.
Asthma is one of the most common respiratory diseases. Asthma is characterized by recurring symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, rapid breathing, and chest tightness. Asthma symptoms happen when the lining of the airways to the lungs swells, which cause the muscles surrounding them to tighten. The airways get filled with mucus adding more hindrance for the air to pass.
Asthma affects people of all ages; in most cases, it starts in childhood, but it can also start at a very later stage of life. Both asthma and allergy are either inherited or happens because of other environmental factors.
Some of the most common causes of Asthma and allergy are as follow: Allergy to food, mould, dust, pollen, pets, animals, etc. Allergic disorder in the family. Air pollution like smoke, smog, and asbestos.
Bad addictions like cigarette smoking, passive smoking, unhealthy eating habits. Induced by job or working conditions like gases, fumes, industrial chemicals, textiles, woodwork, etc.
In Ayurveda, asthma is mentioned under Pranavaha Sroto Vikara, as Swas. Ayurveda describes asthma and allergic asthma as a common lung disease that causes difficulty in regular breathing. Ayurveda is all about the holistic treatment of the body, which uses multiple techniques to cure asthma and allergy.
Ayurveda is extremely clear that whatever we consume influences our body and mind. In
ancient Indian culture and astronomy, the Moon is the deity of mind and vanaspati (food). It
strongly emphasizes the movement of the Moon affects the quality of food changes and it with
time. That is why a certain food is restricted from being eaten on Ekadashi, Dwadashi, and
Trayodashi. However, Ayurvedic doctors and practitioners give more importance to Ekadashi
fasting (upavasam). The reason behind it is simple science. It takes 3-4 days for the
components of food to reach our brain. Eating light food on Ekadashi prepares our body for the
impact of full moon night. The earth observes maximum pressure on full moon day, thus giving
rise to all types of imbalances in one’s body and mind. Observing fast on Ekadashi can reduce
the negative effect of the full moon day.
Our medical treatment at St. Paul’s Ayurvedic clinic also utilizes these days to make our
treatment more effective and holistic. In certain allergic conditions, we prescribe oil to apply on
the scalp. The patients are instructed to apply oil only on days such as Ekadashi, Dwadashi and
Trayodashi.
Asthma and allergy treatment at St Pauls Ayurveda brought me a better life than before. Applying oil in a regular interval as prescibed by the Vaidyan will help us to get the relief so fast. Thanks a lot Yeldo Sir.
